I've Generally Tried to Avoid Israel-Palestine Issues

because I know it's a very touchy and complicated issue.

(And I am NOT one of those who blames Israel/Jews for 9/11. I have never done that, though there clearly is some evidence for Israeli involvement-- and it was probably a deliberate red herring, IMO.)

But goddamn, what Israel is doing to the Palestinians is completely out of control.

I read a couple of days ago that for the first time a Palestinian GRANDMOTHER became a suicide bomber. How sick do things have to be for Palestinians to be so desperate?

Doesn't Israel see what they are doing is a recipe for a disaster of titanic proportions? What they are doing seems to be the worst sort of short-sightedness-- and frankly it is not unlike the thinking that led the US into the Iraq war.

If nothing else, it is clear that Israel has lost whatever moral authority it once had in the world. And again, this is not unlike what has happened to the US.

The most sensible position I've heard was from the asassinated Rabbi Meir Kahane.

There's a nice recording of a debate between him and that vile creature Alan Dershowitz that you can hear on Wikipedia.

In a nutshell, the Arab countries forcibly expelled about one million Jews after 1948. These were people who had lived in those countries for more than a thousand years. Few people want to admit it, but Israel should probably expel the Arab population (and not shoot thim with tanks or helicopters--give everybody $5000 of emergency cash and tell them they have to resettle in Syria, Egypt, or Saudi Arabia. Hell, maybe Germany would welcome a few million Arabs to replace their Jewish population.)

Of course, that would mean that Israel would be a "Jewish State" and not just a supposed liberal democracy. Saudi Arabia seems to get along OK not allowing Jews within its borders. Perhaps Israel should stop allowing Arabs and quit pretending to be something it's not.

You can read about the displaced Jews at http://www.jimena.org

I agree that the situation sounds crazy. It's like Waco or the bombing of the MOVE group in Philadelphia.
