The Media Are Complicit in War Crimes

A point that simply can't be made enough.

A recent example is on the collective yawn over the Senate report on torture, but there are abundant examples and worse examples of media criminality, such as 9/11.

These are bad people.

UPDATE: Now Cheney admits approving torture-- on national TV! Can't you just hear the uproar coming from the media??????

The Media are also complicit in Tax Wars Against The Middle/Lower Classes, Too.

Here's Drudge's Current Headline:

"NY BUDGET BLOWOUT: 88 NEW FEES, TAXES"

18% tax on soda, iPod tax, movie theater tax, sporting event tax, taxi tax, bus tax, limo tax, cable TV tax, radio tax, clothing tax...

Obviously, NY's rich won't feel any pain from the new taxes and fees, but the vast majority of its
residents will.

NOTE: As usual, when revenues are needed, governments always rely on
UNfair regressive taxes and fees, rather than PROgressive, FAIR taxes and fees that target those who are best able to absorb them without suffering any diminution in their lifestyle/standard of living. Inccome tax increases, property tax increases, capital gains tax increases etc. - even a wealth tax (like those in Europe) - are all examples of what should be implemented if additional revenues are needed by the state.

Naturally, Drudge doesn't mention the word "fair" whenever he wails about new taxes. I wouldn't expect politicians to be concerned with fairness or to educate the public, but WHO WILL TELL THE PEOPLE if the MEDIA doesn't?

MSM is presenting a distorted view of B.L. Madoff. The MSM tries to make it seem almost baffling that Mr. Madoff made off with a bunch of rich people's money.

They make it sound as though he's some kind of unique con man.
He ISN'T.

There is a disturbingly high percentage of people who would do the exact same thing as Madoff did if they had the opportunity.

The biggest differences between what Madoff did and what many other people do are:

1. Madoff ripped off RICH people.
He didn't rip off middle class or poor people. Plenty of "regular" folks rip off other people all the time. Whether it's lying about the condition of a car they're selling or buying a widget for a one-time use, then returning it for a refund, or not telling a clerk that they charged a lower price than the item should have been etc. - the public readily rips off other people and institutions all the time. Fake insurance claims, you name it. The public will do it.

2. Madoff allegedly ripped money to the tune of billions of dollars, whereas Joe or Mary "only" rips off things in much smaller amounts.

The reason why the public is so eager to demonize Mr. Madoff and why they love the MSM storyline about him is that it salves their own guilt about their own dishonest dealings with others.
Greed and dishonesty are as rampant on Main street as they are on Wall street.

"We see in others what we see in ourselves."
